No markings were applied to the undersurfaces at all at this stage. In the summer of 1940 undersurfaces were changed to sky, which led to the use of different colours for a time due to the lack of any paint stocks of the official sky colour! Letting the white dry for 24 hours I next painted the black half of the underside with a mix of 70% Model Master flat black and 30% schwartzgrau. Flat black out of the bottle is just a little too black for me in 1/72 scale.

This aircraft is painted in the standard day fighter camouflage and markings scheme introduced on August 21 1941, of grey/green upper surfaces and lighter grey undersides. It is logical that the P.R. Mk. IG should be painted in fighter camouflage as it was more of a tactical fighter reconnaissance aircraft, just like the Tomahawks and Allison-engined Mustangs.

An obvious choice would be a SEAC-painted MkVIII, but I rather like the Med-based Spit VIII schemes - they were rather more colourful, in my opinion. Especially like the desert-marked ones :) Thanks.
